The fox must be naturally spawned, not bred by a player.

The hopper minecart is clipped into the soul sand, supported by its internal 4-pixel high hitbox:

Align the minecart using 3 snow layers and a chest or honey block. See

Remove the honey block and replace it with soul sand or mud by pushing the block downward using a piston

Push a wall downward into the snow layers using a piston
Usage

Unpower the lever to enable the farm.

Powering the egg dispenser using the lever can stop the farm.
